COMP Cams® Concludes Successful Year Of NHRA Pro Category Competition

COMP Cams®-equipped professional class racers leave mark on NHRA points chase

COMP Cams®-equipped NHRA Pro Class race cars completed yet another year of successful competition with major event wins and significant performances. In terms of 2008 season highlights, Pro Stock racers running COMP components set the pace by winning 12 of the 24 NHRA national events – unheard of dominance in a category that continues to bring out the tightest field of competitors in drag racing. Pro Stock racer Greg Anderson pulled off six national event wins in 2008, including three in a row at mid-season. The 2008 NHRA season also marked the return of Clay Millican to the NHRA Top Fuel ranks while his successful two decade history of racing with COMP Cams® products was well documented in the record books.

COMP Cams®-powered 2008 champion Eddie Krawiec with his Screamin’ Eagle Harley Davidson motorcycle just missed out on taking the event win at the World Finals in Pomona, CA, during the last race of the season. Andrew Hines of Vance & Hines Racing earned fourth place in the season ending championship point standings. In Pro Stock Eliminator, five of the top nine racers in the final points race ran COMP Cams® valve train gear including Mike Edwards (#4), Jason Line (#5), Allen Johnson (#7), Greg Stanfield (#8) and Vieri Gaines (#9).

John Force was back with a huge effort in 2008 with a win at the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kansas, that marked a full recovery point from a major crash during the 2007 season, however team member Robert Hight battled for the points lead and Funny Car championship right down to the last race of the season. In the end, Hight finished fourth with John Force’s daughter, Ashley Force, in sixth and John right behind her in seventh while Mike Neff collected the ninth place award for his season long efforts. By the year’s end, all four of the Force family racers (John, Ashley, Brittany and Courtney) had successful tales to tell about their cars, all of which run COMP Cams® valve train components.

Hillary Will concluded her best season ever with a fourth place finish in Top Fuel Eliminator, the highlight of the season’s efforts coming at Topeka where she and John Force both earned top honors in their COMP Cams®-equipped race cars. Doug Kalitta earned the fifth place slot in the final Top Fuel points standings with this COMP Cams®-equipped fueler followed by Dave Grubnick in tenth.
